CLAREMONT, CA — Tanner Siffert doubled in Brandon Vogel in the top of the eleventh to break a 6-6 tie and the University of La Verne baseball team scored an 8-6 road win over the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Stags.
With the win, the Leopards hold on to second place in the conference. The Leopards can clinch the No. 2 seed in the SCIAC Postseason Tournament with one win over the Stags tomorrow.
La Verne improves to 28-10 overall and 15-7 in the SCIAC. Claremont-Mudd-Scripps falls to 18-13-1 overall and 11-11 in conference play.
Top of the 11th
After neither team was able to get a runner into scoring position in the tenth, senior Brandon Vogel got on base in the eleventh with a leadoff walk. Fellow senior Ryan Galan played his role next, laying down a sacrifice bunt to move Vogel over ninety feet.
Siffert stepped up next hitting a shot to left to send Vogel home, giving the Leopards a 7-6 edge.
How It Happened
Christopher Ligot led the Leopards with three RBI and a pair of hits. The senior hit a two-run shot in the third inning to extend La Verne's lead to 4-0.
Peres pitched four and two-thirds innings of relief to pick up his fourth win of the season. At the plate, Peres led the Leopards with three hits.
Vogel gave the Leopards the opening lead in the second when he doubled in Lukas Granado. Galan stepped up next and capitalized with a sacrifice fly to score Jacob Benson. Benson finished with two hits.
Ligot added another RBI in the seventh to put the Leopards up four but the Stags stormed back tying the game with three runs in the seventh and one in the ninth.
