Senior first baseman Jack Bartlewski of the Oglethorpe baseball team won the SAA Baseball Player of the Week award Monday, marking the first such award of his career. It's the second SAA weekly award the Stormy Petrels have won on the young season, as freshman right-hander Jonathan Haab took SAA Pitcher of the Week honors on Feb. 11.
Bartlewski had an outstanding weekend for the Petrels. The infielder went 7-for-10 at the plate with a home run, a triple, a walk, 10 RBIs, and three runs scored over the course of two games. He slugged 1.200, collecting 12 total bases in two games.
In Sunday's wild 19-13 win over George Fox, Bartlewski had a career day, going 4-for-5 with a grand slam, a triple, a sacrifice fly, eight RBIs, and two runs scored. The eight RBIs broke the previous Oglethorpe single-game record of seven, which was held jointly by Brad Sims, Brendan Pilger and Andrew Llano.
The Petrels are set to get back to action on Wednesday when they host Washington and Lee at 5 p.m. from Anderson Field. After that, they'll take a bit of a break before they face off against Piedmont on Feb. 26 from Demorest, Georgia.
