Winter Haven, FL: The Concordia University Chicago baseball team, ranked #9 in the latest Top 25, came back to defeat Ramapo College 7-6. The Cougars improve to 6-2 overall while the Roadrunners see their first loss of the season and now stand at 3-1.

The game remained scoreless until the fourth inning when the Cougars plated five runs on five hits and two Ramapo errors. The Roadrunners put two runs on the board in the bottom half of the inning. Bobby Shannon and Anthony Rocchietti each singled with one out before Liam Duffy drove home Shannon with an RBI single to right field. Vinny Sita was hit by a pitch to move Duffy up one base before Nick Cuba tacked on a run with a RBI groundout allowing Rocchietti to score.

In the sixth, Ramapo added two more runs to come within one 5-4. Matt Chemis put down a sac bunt to advance two runners before Austin Unglaub plated Duffy and Sita with a hard-hit single through the right side of the infield. The Roadrunners tied the game in the bottom of the eighth with two outs when Joe Maugeri drove a single back up the middle allowing Chemis to score from second base 5-5. Chemis singled with two outs earlier in the inning.

The Cougars took a 7-5 lead in the top of the ninth with a single from Keegan Tyrell which plated two runs. Rocchietti was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning before Sita doubles with one out allowing Rocchietti to advance to third. Chemis then drove a single through the right side of the infield allowing Rochhietti to score before the relay throw from the Cougar defense was able to get the final out at the plate to preserve the 7-6 win.

Cory Heitler started on the mound for the Roadrunners and earned a no-decision. He struck out two, walked four, scattered five hits and surrendered five runs. Kyle Haag (0-1) took the loss in relief in 4.1 innings of work. He struck out five, walked to and surrendered one run while he did not give up a hit.

The Roadrunners return to action tomorrow afternoon when they take on St. Norbert College in a double header that starts at 3:15pm.
