Benedictine Sweeps Into Conference Tournament

LISLE, IL - The Benedictine University baseball team swept visiting Rockford University to secure a slot in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Tournament.

Benedictine logged double-digit hits in each contest and did not trail during either affair
Benedictine scored seven unearned runs in the opener
D.J. Dillon put Benedictine on the board in the second inning with a bases loaded infield single
Kyle Mitter followed with a bases loaded walk to make the score 2-0
Jack Feeley capped a three-run inning with an RBI single
The lead reached 5-0 with a pair of runs in the third
Andrew Hotze plated Sam Kerr with a single and Dillon added an RBI single as well
Rockford scored twice in the fourth before Benedictine broke the game open with six in the fifth
All six runs in the inning were unearned
Game two saw Frank Greco spin his third complete game shutout of the year, improving to 8-1 on the year in nine starts
Greco allowed just four hits while walking one and striking out eight
Benedictine scored in four different innings in the win
Nick Severino notched a one-out single in the third before stealing second and third and scoring on a single from Tanner Kiser
Chayancze Stirbis stretched the lead to 2-0 with a sacrifice fly in the fifth
Julian Calixto notched an RBI double in the sixth, his second two-bagger of the game and Dillon dropped down a safety squeeze to extend the edge to 4-0

Ivan Guzman twirled six innings to earn his fourth win of the year, allowing just two unearned runs
Guzman walked two and struck out five before Ryan Renken finished out the win
Rockford managed just three hits in the opener
Dillon drove home three runs in the opener, finishing with two hits as Benedictine totaled 10
Kiser, Kerr and Hotze also produced two hits while Brandon Gipson drew three walks
Hotze and Severino each logged three hits in the second game with Kiser collecting two along with a pair of walks
Calixto also picked up a pair of knocks as Benedictine posted 12

Benedictine (21-15, 12-8 NACC) faces Baldwin Wallace in a non-conference doubleheader on Friday at Bethel College in Mishawaka, Ind.
