Benedictine Completes Weekend Sweep

LISLE, IL - The Benedictine University baseball team completed a weekend conference sweep by taking a pair of games from Aurora University at home on Monday afternoon.

Trailing 1-0 in the third, Benedictine struck for three unearned runs and tacked on four in the eighth for insurance in the opener
Nick Severino notched a one-out single to open the rally
After Jack Feeley reached on an error, Chayancze Stirbis tied the game with an RBI double and Andrew Hotze singled home a pair
Joe Palasiewicz kept Aurora at bay on the hill, tossing seven innings
Aurora pulled within a run in the sixth and left the bases loaded in the seventh
Tanner Kiser roped an RBI single in the eighth while Brandon Gipson collected an RBI single and D.J. Dillon doubled home another run
The second game saw Benedictine rally from down 2-1
Stirbis lifted a sacrifice fly in the third to open the scoring before Aurora responded with two in the fourth
Benedictine took a 4-2 lead by scoring three runs with two outs in the fifth
McLaughlin tied the game with a single to plate Severino
Hotze tripled home two more
Benedictine gained breathing room with three runs in the eighth on a double from Dillon, a sacrifice fly from Severino and a wild pitch
Aurora was able to put the tying run in the on deck circle in the ninth but Marty Maves entered from the bullpen and needed just two pitches for the save

Benedictine posted 11 hits in the opener
Stibis, Hotze, Kiser and Jimmy McLaughlin each finished with a pair
Palasiewicz struck out six in moving to 3-2 on the year
Will Diessner and Jacob Trumpis tossed scoreless innings to finish out the win in the opener
Ivan Guzman moved to 3-1 by working six innings in the second contest
James Wright returned with two perfect frames
McLaughlin logged three hits in the second contest while Dillon contributed two
Benedictine did not make an error in either game of the doubleheader and picked up nine hits in the second game

Benedictine (17-10, 9-3 NACC) is scheduled to host UW-Oshkosh on Wednesday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. in a non-conference contest
