(WASHINGTON, Pa.) - The Thomas More College baseball team fell, 11-5, to Washington & Jefferson College today (Saturday, April 19,2014) in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) single nine-inning game at Ross Memorial Park in Washington, Pennsylvania.
With the loss, the Saints fall to 15-13 overall and 9-6 in the PAC and with the win, the Presidents improve to 17-11 overall and 12-2 in the PAC.
W&J scored one run in the second, two in the fourth, two in the sixth, five in the seventh and one in the eighth, while holding Thomas More to one run in the second, one in the third, two in the seventh and one in the ninth for the 11-5 victory.
Two Saints had multiple hits in the game as senior third baseman Travis Miller (Erlanger, Ky./St. Henry) was two-for-four with a run batted-in and a run scored and senior right fielder Cody Makin (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) was two-for-five with a RBI.
Senior pitcher Jake Samad (Burlington, Ky./Connor) had a no-decision as he pitched three innings giving up one run (earned) on three hits, while striking out one. Freshman Addison Brown (Erlanger, Ky./Lloyd Memorial) suffered the loss as he pitched one inning giving up two runs (one earned) on three hits. Freshman Vic Newberry (Independence, Ky./Simon Kenton) pitched two innings giving up two runs (both earned) on three hits and struck out one. Sophomore Chris Auer (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) pitched two-thirds of an inning and gave up five runs (all earned) on three hits and walked one and freshman Ken Ruberg (Cincinnai, Ohio/LaSalle) pitched one and one-third innings and gave up one run (unearned) on two hits and struck out four.
The Saints return to action on Tuesday (April 22) when they travel to Latrobe, Pennsylvania to play Saint Vincent College in a PAC doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
