Jersey City, N.J. (4/15/11) – The Kean University baseball team pounded out 27 runs and 13 extra base hits as they defeated host New Jersey City University, 27-5, Friday afternoon in NJAC action.
Just 24 hours prior, the two teams battled as Kean managed just one run for the victory on Thursday afternoon.
The #3 Cougars (24-4) scored early and often, with the biggest blow coming in the top of the fourth as they plated 10 runs. Kean was able to play 21 players in today's action, with nine players recording multiple hits on the afternoon.
Senior Nick Nolan was a perfect 4-for-4 with a double, homerun, three runs scored and two RBI. With today's homerun, Nolan has etched his name on another category in the Kean record book, as he now holds the career mark for homeruns with 32, passing Frank Beckhorn who had 31.
Senior Ken Gregory was 3-for-4 with four RBI, a double and monster homerun to dead centerfield. Junior Lee Cavico kept his hot bat going with a 2-for-4 performance and five RBI. He also added a homerun. Sophomore Steve Nappe was 3-for-4 with three RBI and three doubles, tying a single-game record. Leadoff hitter Shane Alvarez was 1-for-3 with four runs scored and four walks, tying a single-game standard. Junior Dylan Laguna finished the afternoon with a 2-for-3 performance and three RBI along with two doubles. Senior Chris Carrano had a 3-for-5 day with two doubles, two RBI and three runs scored.
On the mound freshman Matt Mantione earned the win in relief. Mantione, making his first appearance this season, tossed a 1-2-3 fifth inning as Kean used five pitchers in today's shortened affair.
Kean travels to Richard Stockton for an NJAC doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 11:30 a.m.
