Illinois College Takes Two From Baruch

More news about: Baruch

The Baruch College Bearcats lost both ends of a doubleheader to the Blueboys of Illinois College on Wednesday afternoon at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic in Fort Myers, Florida.

The doubleheader was the first two of eight games to be played on the traditional trip to Florida.

The Bearcats struck first in the 12 p.m. contest as Nicholas Altopiedi was hit by a bases loaded pitch that brought in JP Ramirez. Davic Capellan then smacked a two-out RBI single to plate Donovan Hunt for a 2-0 lead in the second inning.

Illinois College scored a run in the third inning to cut score to 2-1 and it remained that way until they added two more runs in their bottom of the sixth inning via a two run single by Wyatt Parker to lead 3-2.

That forced the Bearcats to rally in their final at-bat and CUNYAC Preseason Player of the Year Edwin St. Hilaire delivered with an RBI single to score Elvis Clime for the tie.

Unfortunately, Illinois College recorded the walk-off 4-3 win in their next at-bat with a bases loaded RBI single by Austin Gusewelle.

In the 3 p.m. contest, the Bearcats could only muster three hits in a 6-1 loss.

They did manage again to get on the scoreboard first in their opening at-bat on a fielding error that brought home Capellan.
