Kalamazoo College's Orr named Preseason All-American

Kalamazoo College's Ryan Orr was named a First Team Preseason All-American by D3baseball.com.

A senior pitcher/second baseman from DeWitt, Mich. (Bath HS), Orr earned first-team recognition as a utility player. He is the first player in program history to be recognized as a First Team Preseason All-American.

Orr earned several awards last season while helping lead the Hornets to their best season in school history, finishing 31-14 overall and 20-8 in the MIAA (second place). He was a D3baseball.com Second Team All-American (utility player), D3baseball.com All-Region First Team (utility player), ABCA/Rawlings All-Region Second Team (utility player), All-MIAA First Team (pitcher) and MIAA Co-Most Outstanding Pitcher. Prior to last season, Orr was named an Honorable Mention Preseason All-American by D3baseball.com.

Orr was 7-2 with three saves in 11 starts and 15 appearances and a 3.05 ERA last season. He struck out 76 batters while walking only 11 with an average of 9.29 strikeouts per nine innings. He was third on the team in batting average (.331), hits (47), RBIs (31) and runs scored (31) while playing second base. He was second on the team with 10 stolen bases.

Orr holds several Kalamazoo College records, including career wins and strikeouts.

In 2016, Orr was selected All-MIAA First Team (pitcher), ABCA/Rawlings All-Region First Team (pitcher) and D3baseball.com All-Region Second Team (pitcher). He was an All-MIAA Second Team (pitcher) selection in 2015).

The Kalamazoo College baseball team is scheduled to begin the season on March 4 at Oglethorpe University (Ga.).
