PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Ryan Zielinski,
Castleton
(Jr, - 2B - Schenectady, N.Y.)
Zielinski was the Spartans' offensive catalyst last week, batting
an even .500 (12-for-24) in seven games while also slugging .792
with a .571 on-base percentage. The junior had four multi-hit
games, and reached base safely in all seven contests in leading
Castleton to a perfect 7-0 record. He also scored drove in a
team-high 10 RBI, scored nine runs and was 5-for-5 on stolen bases.
In the series opener against Maine-Farmington, Zielinski went
3-for-4 with a double, triple and three RBI. He was equally as good
in the series finale, going 3-for-3 with a double, and reaching
base four times while scoring a pair of runs. He leads the team in
batting (.420) and slugging (.642) this season.
PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Dakota Aker,
Castleton
(Sr, P - Schenectady, N.Y.)
Aker made two appearances last week and saved his best for last,
tossing a no-hitter in a 4-0 seven-inning win over Maine-Farmington
on Saturday afternoon. The junior was untouchable, striking out
eight hitters and facing the minimum of 21 batters over seven
innings. Only two runners reached base, the first coming on a
one-out walk in the first and the second on a dropped third strike
in the third. Neither got to second as one was out as part of a
double play while the second was gunned down trying to steal. In
his other appearance, Aker threw two innings against Southern
Vermont, allowing one earned run while striking out two.
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Casey Estes,
Husson
(Fr, INF - Old Town, Maine)
First year infielder Casey Estes appeared in four of Husson's 9
games this week, and made his opportunity count, going 5-11 at the
dish for a .455 batting average. Estes picked up four RBI while
scoring another. Defensively, he turned in a 1.000 fielding
percentage for the week playing second base.
