ST. PAUL, Minn. -- For the second consecutive season, MIAC
baseball teams have joined forces with the Prostate Cancer
Foundation (PCF) in an effort to "Strike Out Prostate Cancer." For
the week of April 16-22, 2012, all MIAC baseball games will double
as events to raise funds and awareness to combat prostate
cancer.
The two primary goals of Strike Out Prostate Cancer week are to
raise money to benefit the PCF and its work to discover a cure for
the disease, and to raise awareness off the affliction -
particularly in males ages 18-to-30 - to encourage them to be aware
of the disease and how to detect it as early as possible.
All proceeds raised at MIAC baseball games throughout the week will
be donated to the PCF, so all fans who purchase tickets or pay
admission to any conference game this week will be simultaneously
supporting MIAC baseball and contributing to the Strike Out
Prostate Cancer initiative. Donations will also be accepted at all
games.
The two main dates to circle on the calendar are Wednesday and
Saturday, with a full slate of conference doubleheaders each day.
All the Wednesday twin bills start at 2:30 p.m., except Gustavus at
Concordia's 1 p.m. start, and all of Saturday's doubleheaders are
scheduled for a 1 p.m. first pitch. MIAC teams also host
nonconference games Tuesday and Wednesday. Click
here for the MIAC baseball composite schedule for all dates,
times and locations. Either scroll down to this week to view, or
sort using this week's dates in the fields above the schedule.
Also, all conference doubleheaders are listed below.
Second, anyone can contribute to the MIAC's fundraising effort to
benefit the PCF through an online donation site. Click
here to access the site and click on "General Team Donation"
near the middle of the screen to get started. Enter your donation
amount in the box that appears and click, "Continue," complete the
form on the following page and click, "Submit." The PCF is a
501(c)(3) organization. All donations are tax-deductible to the
extent permitted by law. A receipt will be sent by E-mail. All
donations of $250 or more will also receive a letter acknowledging
the donation.
Another way the MIAC community can help with this noble effort is
to help spread the word. Share the information and links with
friends, family and alumni and join the conversation on the MIAC's
social media networks. Post on the MIAC's Facebook page, or tag
@MIAConline on
Twitter and share how you're contributing to Strike Out Prostate
Cancer week.
The MIAC has set up a Web site (click here) to promote Strike Out
Prostate Cancer week with information and links, and it will be
updated throughout the week to help the conference teams promote
the individual events on each campus.
