Martin, Trotta named CCIW Baseball Players of the Week
NAPERVILLE, Ill. – Wheaton’s Trey Martin and Augustana’s Mike Trotta were named the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Baseball Players of the Week Tuesday. Martin, a junior first baseman/pitcher from Wheaton, Ill., and Wheaton North High School (Interpersonal Communication major), batted .700 with two home runs, seven RBI, three runs scored and a 1.500 slugging percentage in two games for the Thunder last week. He was 4-for-5 with two home runs and five RBI in a 15-0 win over the U.S. Coast Guard on March 3. Earlier in the day, Martin was 3-for-5 with two doubles in a 10-9 loss to Muhlenberg. Defensively, Martin had no errors and 13 putouts. Trotta, a senior pitcher from Chicago, Ill., and Niles-Notre Dame High School (Business & Marketing major), tossed a pair of complete-game victories as Augustana went 7-2 on its recent spring trip to Florida. Trotta worked seven innings in the first game of a double header against Brandeis on February 22 as the Vikings won 12-0. He struck out four and walked just one while allowing four hits. He then went seven innings in the first game of a doubleheader against Loras on February 29. The Vikings won 9-5 as Trotta struck out nine, walked two and scattered seven hits.
