Ninth Inning Single Leads Adrian Past Wooster

TERRE HAUTE, IND. – Bobby Rickstad slapped a two-out RBI single in the top of the ninth to snap a 3-3 tie and lift Adrian College to a 4-3 victory over the College of Wooster in game two of the NCAA Division III Mideast Baseball Regional at Rose-Hulman.

Rickstad slapped a single through the right side to score Nick Sarkissian with the game running run and lift Adrian to its 31st victory of the season.

Wooster attempted a rally in the bottom of the ninth, with Sean Karpen hitting a two-out single and stealing second base. Nick Vandike retired Jake Sankal on a strikeout to end the contest and improve to 5-0 on the season.

Brian Bilius led the Bulldogs with three singles and one run scored. Rickstad added two singles and two RBIs, with Alex Cowart adding two singles and one run batted in.

Pat Christensen paced the Wooster offense with four hits, including a pair of doubles. Matt Groezinger blasted a two-run home run in the first inning and Stu Beath hit a solo shot to tie the score at 3-3 in the bottom of the eighth for the Fighting Scots.

Adam Samson endured a tough loss on the mound to drop to 7-2 on the season. Samson allowed just two earned runs in 8.2 innings of work and scattered 12 hits with two strikeouts. Alex Webster enjoyed a strong start for Adrian, tossing 7.1 innings and allowing three earned runs.

Adrian improved to 31-10 on the season with the victory, while Wooster dropped to 34-10 on the campaign. The Bulldogs square off with the winner of tonight's game between Calvin and Rose-Hulman on Friday at 3:30 p.m., while Wooster battles Transylvania at noon on Friday.
