Westfield State head baseball coach Ray Arra has announced that seniors
Josh Perches, Steve Sullivan and Cagney Turner have been named captains
for the 2009 Owl baseball squad.
"These are three deserving captains," said Arra. "We hope they can lead
us to another successful season."
Perches, Sullivan and Turner have played key roles in the Owls' success
the past two seasons. Westfield won the Mass. State Conference regular
season and postseason tournament championships in 2007. Last year, the
Owls shared the regular season crown with Worcester State.
Sullivan has been a stalwart pitcher for the Owls the past three
seasons, both as a reliever and starter. Turner transferred to Westfield State
after Hartwick (N.Y.) College dropped baseball as a varsity sport. He
has excelled defensively as a first baseman the past two years. Perches has
been a key contributor as a pitcher and designated hitter.
