Wesley's Buckland To Join Nashua Pride
Jul 18, 2008
DOVER, Del. - Former Wesley College standout and 2008 graduate Ryan Buckland (Middletown, Del./Caravel Academy) has agreed to terms with the Nashua (N.H.) Pride of the independent Canadian American Association of Professional Baseball (CanAm League).
Buckland will sign with the Pride on July 19 and could start on the mound as soon as that evening in New Hampshire against Ottawa, depending upon travel considerations.
A 6-4 righty, Buckland completed his career with a stellar senior season in 2008. He finished the year with an 8-2 record and a 2.88 ERA, while striking out 71 batters in 75 innings. He led the Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) in opposing batting average (.195) and hits allowed/game (6.24). He also finished tied for second in the conference in strikeouts to earn All-CAC Second Team honors.
The senior became Wesley's career wins leader in 2008 and finished his career with 26 career victories. His 228 career strikeouts are also the most in school history. Buckland was named all-conference in each of his final three seasons.
Buckland is the first Wesley baseball player to sign a professional contract since the program joined NCAA Division III.
He helped lead the Wolverines to a 27-15 record in 2008 and third place finish in the CAC. Over the past three years, the Wolverines have won 80 games, the most in school history over a three-year period.
Buckland will look to bolster a Nashua roster that enters the weekend with a 23-28 record.
