Head Baseball Coach Jason Tawney has announced changes to his staff for the upcoming 2009 season.
Mark Chiveral in his 10th season as an assistant for the program will be promoted to Senior Assistant /Bench Coach. “Mark’s role on our staff really hasn’t changed, however I feel this title is more appropriate for what he brings to the program. Mark is my top assistant and has been for all 7 years I’ve been at the helm,” says Coach Tawney. Mark will still be overseeing the pitching staff but will also have expanded duties.
Todd Perry in his 3rd season on the staff will be promoted to Pitching Coach. “Todd was the assistant pitching coach the last 2 seasons, and has done a terrific job and deserves to oversee the staff himself. I’ve seen his energy and influence on our staff already during the fall,” states Coach Tawney.
Mike D’Andrea will enter his 3rd season on the staff, however his role will change dramatically. Mike was the Graduate Assistant Coach for the program for the last 2 seasons, and will now become the Infield Defense Coach. “This is a role that Mike filled each of the last 2 seasons, in addition to his other duties off the field. His time commitment will be different, but his dedication won’t be questioned. I’m glad he decided to continue to be a part of the staff,” says Coach Tawney
Chris Masters will enter his 1st season as an assistant and will have the role as Recruiting Coordinator. “Chris came on board in August as a volunteer and quickly proved himself as someone who wants to be a major part of our program. The position of Recruiting Coordinator opened up, and I had no doubts who I wanted to offer the position to,” states Coach Tawney. He will be responsible for recruiting activities, visits and OF defense.
Nathan Roling will enter his 1st season as the Graduate Assistant Coach. “This is a very important position to our program. The GA’s main responsibility is to monitor the academics of our student athletes, coordinate tutoring, and monitor study halls. Nathan has shown a tremendous amount of dedication in a short amount of time, and will be a strong asset to our program,” says Coach Tawney. Coach Roling will also serve as the Head Coach for the JV program, as well as 1st base coach and have prime responsibilities for monitoring our group of catchers.
