TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - Heidelberg used a seven-run third inning rally Wednesday to knock off Transylvania10-3 in the opening game of the NCAA Division III Mideast Regional, hosted by Rose-Hulman.
The Pioneers, seeded sixth and representing the Heartland Conference, is 31-13 while Heidelberg, the Mideast Region's top seed from the Ohio Athletic Conference, improves to 38-8.

The Pioneers, making their first NCAA tourney appearance, got off to a good start when sophomore first baseman Ben Young clouted a two-run homer in the first inning. It was his 11th blast of the year, tying the school single season record set by Taylor McDonald in 2004.
Adam Clark walked and stole second prior to Young's homer to right center with two outs.
Transy starter Adam Wilkins (7-4) allowed only a walk in the first two innings before Heidelberg struck for seven runs on seven hits (six singles), a walk and a hit batter in the bottom of the third. Five of the runs scored before Willkins could record an out.
Tim Bauman's single scored Jerrod Long in the seventh as Transy tried to rally. Long opened the inning with a double and took third on a passed ball before Evan Rhea walked and Bauman singled up the middle. With two runners on and one out, Clark fanned and Mitch Kuczek flew out to end the threat.
Wilkins allowed 10 hits and seven earned runs in six innings, walking walking and fanning one batter. Derrick Wyatt relieved in the seventh and retired the first five batters he faced. With two out in the eighth, Heidelberg scored three unearned runs on two Pioneer errors, a walk, a balk, a run-scoring double, and a two-run single.
Heidelberg's David Paddock went the distance to get this win, allowing four hits and four walks to go with seven strikeouts.
