Four Homeruns Lift Texas-Dallas to Win Over Texas-Tyler

TYLER, Texas -- The 5th-ranked University of Texas at Tyler baseball team gave up an uncharacteristic four homeruns, as The University of Texas at Dallas upset the Patriots on Friday night at Irwin Field, 9-7.
Jared Smith and Chris Bigunet each hit two homeruns for UT Dallas, as the Comets out hit UT Tyler, 13-7.
Junior Kendall Fox (Carrollton, Texas) and senior Chris Tucker (Flower Mound, Texas) combined for four of the Patriots’ seven hits on the day, while senior Clay Baker (Henderson, Texas) hit the only homerun of the game for UT Tyler.
The loss is the second in a row for the Patriots and marks the first time since April of 2006 that UT Tyler has lost consecutive games.
With the loss, the Patriots fall to 21-6 overall and 5-2 in the East Division of the American Southwest Conference. Meanwhile, UT Dallas improves to 15-11 on the year and 2-8 in conference action.
Both teams will return to Irwin Field on Saturday for a doubleheader that will begin at 1 p.m.
