Buena Vista (7-3, 1-0 IIAC) defeated Simpson 5-1 (8-10, 2-2 IIAC) 5-1 to open a three-game Iowa Conference series Mar. 30 in Storm Lake. There was no score until Marc Goeders singled in Justin List in the bottom of the seventh inning. The Beavers added four runs in the bottom of the eighth. Lance Eddie keyed the rally with a two-run home run. Jason McClaflin (Jr., Altoona, Iowa, Southeast Polk H.S.) drove in the lone Storm run in the top of the ninth with single that plated Corey Rassumssen (So., West Des Moines, Iowa, Valley H.S.).

Curt Bjork (So., Mt. Vernon, Iowa, Mt. Vernon H.S.) led the Storm as he went 3-for-5. Kyle Meyer (Sr., Hortonville, Wis., Madison Area T.C., Appleton North H.S.) was 2-for-5. List and Alex Fokken each posted two hits for Buena Vista.

Saturday's doubleheader between the two schools has had its start time altered. The games were moved back three hours to 4 p.m. due to weather.
