Penn State Behrend Lions Baseball Volunteer With Habit for Humanity

Feb 05, 2010
Press Release posted by Penn State-Behrend Permalink
On Saturday, January 30, the Behrend Lions baseball program contributed volunteer hours to Habitat for Humanity. The team provided almost 70 hours of labor in the Habitat warehouse moving refrigerators, stoves, roofing shingles, organizing wood flooring, and building sheds.

Last year the program provided two groups of players and coaches to work on a home build in Erie. "This is something our players and coaches feel really good about doing," said Head Coach Paul Benim. "We were able to help an organization that supports people and families in need by simply giving up a little time."

The Behrend Lions athletic staff and the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee have also worked in the past for Habitat for Humanity as a community service project.

Habitat for Humanity builds and rehabilitates houses and neighborhoods by providing simple, decent, affordable homes in partnership with families in need. Reaching out from Christian roots across denominational, faith, economic and racial lines, Habitat works in partnership with prospective and existing homeowners, volunteers, donors, community organizations and all those who can help reach these goals.
