Kean's McKiernan Joins National Baseball Committee
Oct 19, 2007
Press Release posted by Kean Permalink
Union, N.J. (10/18/07) - Kean University Associate Athletic Director Jack McKiernan has been appointed to the NCAA Division III National Baseball Committee. McKiernan is the new Mid-Atlantic Regional Representative – one of eight regional representatives throughout the country.

“Jack’s appointment to the NCAA Baseball Committee is a great honor for him and the University,” said Athletic Director Glenn Hedden. “Having seen how hard the committee works while we were at the national championship last season in Wisconsin, I know Jack will have a great experience serving on a national committee just as I did.”

Hedden represented Kean on the NCAA Division III National Football Committee, representing the East Region from 1997-2000. Prior to that, the only other member of Kean to serve on a national committee was then head baseball coach and current Physical Education Department Chairperson Rich Bakker who served numerous times, most recently 1988.

The NCAA committee meets numerous times during the spring via teleconference, at the National Championship in May and at the scheduled retreat during the summer. The committee is responsible for evaluating teams throughout the season and with the selection and creation of the 53-team post-season bracket.

McKiernan has been at Kean for the past seven years, spending the first five as the Sports Information Director and the last two in his current role. Under his leadership, Kean's athletic program and facilities have risen to national prominence.
