14th-RANKED EAGLES CLAIM 8-5 WIN OVER DEPAUW

(Mar. 26) The 14th-ranked Emory University Baseball team won its third-straight game on Wednesday and ended an eight-game winning streak for the DePauw University (Ind.), as the Eagles claimed an 8-5 win over the Tigers at Chappell Park.

Emory freshman Andrew Johnson pitched well in his first career start, using just 54 pitches to get through five innings of three hit baseball and earn his first collegiate victory. Four of Johnson’s five innings were one-two-three innings, as he allowed just one earned run (two runs total) and struck out one batter.

The Eagles gave their young starter some runs to work with, scoring two in the second inning off RBI hits for Michael Saleh and Jeremy Bolian. Emory would tack on three more runs in the third inning, off RBIs for David Hissey and Andrew Cohn, and a rundown with two outs that allowed Cohn to score.

Saleh and Joe Roth each finished the game with a run on three hits, and Frank Pfister went two-for-three with a double. Roth is now batting .696 (16-for23) over his last seven games, and has an on-base percentage of .719 during the stretch.

The victory raises Emory’s record to 17-6 this season, as the Eagles have won three-straight games and five of their last six contests. The Tigers fell to 16-4 with the loss.

Emory will be back in action this weekend, travelling to Methodist University (N.C.) for a two-game series against the Monarchs.
