Edgewood College: Construction underway on Stampfl Field upgrades

Jun 04, 2008
Press Release posted by Edgewood Permalink
MADISON, Wis. (May 28, 2008) - Thanks to a new partnership between Edgewood College and the City of Verona, construction is well underway on a new grandstand structure for Stampfl Field, the Eagles’ baseball home since 1997. The new grandstand will include 350 covered seats, an enclosed press box concession and restroom facilities. As part of the partnership, Edgewood College will remain at Stampfl Field for the next 25 years.

“We are very excited about this new partnership between Edgewood College and the City of Verona,” said Edgewood College President Daniel Carey. “This joint venture serves as a prime example of how a community and a college can work together towards a mutual benefit. We are grateful to the City of Verona that the Eagles will call Stampfl Field their home well into the next two decades.”

Additional upgrades include a new inning-by-inning scoreboard, a new team meeting area/storage unit and improved fencing. It is anticipated that work will be completed this summer and a ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held in conjunction with the Edgewood College alumni baseball game on September 27.

“The partnerships between Edgewood College and the City of Verona have been growing over the last 10 years,” said Edgewood College Athletic Director and Head Baseball Coach Al Brisack. “From the beginning, it has been paramount that we certainly find ways to benefit our student-athletes, but, that we also find ways to enhance Verona. We have been very careful to make sure every path taken is one that will have a positive effect on the residents of Verona. The signing of a 25-year agreement and the facility improvements to Stampfl Field are the latest and most significant examples of this work. Not only will our baseball team have a place to call home for the next quarter century, but Verona’s baseball community will enjoy one of the nicest facilities in southern Wisconsin. We hope this will become the example of how positive these types of partnerships can be and the blue print for future partnerships. The leadership in the City of Verona has been a pleasure to work with over the last eight years and I am personally grateful for their vision and openness to new ideas.”

Edgewood College’s softball team competes at the nearby Verona Little League Complex, allowing both Eagle teams and their fans to enjoy high-quality facilities within two hundred yards of each other.
