Kris Edwards pitched a four-hit shutout and J.D. Dorgan’s double drove in the only run of the game Friday as St. Thomas opened the MIAC playoff with a 1-0 win over St. John’s at Veterans Field in Minnetonka. Edwards scattered four hits, struck out seven and had twice as many strikes as balls in out dueling Brett Kramer and shutting out the Johnnies for the second time this season. Edwards also defeated St. John’s 5-0 last month in Collegeville.

Junior Austin Blaski fired a two-hit shutout to lead No. 1 Marietta into the 2011 OAC Championship Game with a 4-0 victory over No. 9 Heidelberg at Don Schaly Stadium. Blaski, the 2010 Kent Tekulve OAC Pitcher of the Year, overcame four walks and struck out three to improve to 9-2. Sylvester Nino (5-3) took the loss after allowing four runs on five hits in six and one-third innings. He walked five and fanned four.

The Keystone Giants are heading back to the CSAC title game, as the Giants breezed by Immaculata 12-2 in a winner's bracket game. Blaine O'Brien worked eight innings of three hit ball, allowing one earned run, to pick up the victory. The Giants, who are in pursuit of their third consecutive conference crown, will play on Saturday for a chance to return to the NCAA tournament.

Ryan Jacobs pitched a complete game for the Lions, allowing eight hits, three earned runs, while striking out nine, in defeating Medaille 11-3.
Penn State Behrend sports information

The #1 seed Penn State Altoona Lions claimed their second win in as many games in the 2011 AMCC Tournament, defeating #3 seed Penn State Behrend 12-2 at Stewart Athletic Field. In their second game of the day, Penn State Behrend defeated #4 seed Medaille 11-3 in the second game on Friday to stay alive and force a rematch with Altoona in the AMCC title game.

Friday the 13th didn't bring bad luck to Franklin, in fact, the Grizzlies' post-season fortunes have taken a real turn for the better. For the first time ever, Franklin has advanced to the  championship game of the HCAC double-elimination championship tournament via the winner's bracket. Franklin rallied, scoring four runs in the top of the eighth inning, and held on to topple top-seeded and host Manchester 9-7 in the first of three tourney contests today.

UW-Whitewater set a WIAC Tournament record for runs scored in a 21-2 win over UW-Oshkosh  in the opening game of the tournament. The twenty-one runs is the most UW-Whitewater has scored this season, topping the previous high of 19 the Warhawks scored May 1 in a win at UW-Oshkosh.  It is the most runs Whitewater has scored since totaling 22 in a win over Oshkosh April 28, 2010 in Whitewater. After blasting UW-Oshkosh, the Warhawks fell to host UW-Stevens Point 6-5 in the second game of the day.  The tournament uses a double-elimination format so UW-Whitewater remains alive and will play UW-Oshkosh again Saturday with the Pointes awaiting the winner.

The 24th-ranked and No. 3 seeded Thomas More defeated Washington and Jefferson 10-5 and Westminster (Pa.) 11-4 in the oping day of the President's Athletic Conference. Andrew Thole hit a home run in both games as the junior first baseman led the Saints with a 4-for-8, 5 RBI day. With the wins, the Saints advance to the championship game.
