T.J. Martin's bases-loaded sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth inning lifted no. 6 Texas-Tyler to a 7-6 comeback victory over LeTourneau at Irwin Field. The Patriots had to erase a LeTourneau advantage twice in the final two innings, as the visiting YellowJackets had reclaimed the lead with a two-run home run by Chris Bertram in the top of the ninth.

Cal Lutheran allowed a seven-run fourth inning to No. 11 Pomona-Pitzer that erased a three-run Kingsmen advantage in a 9-3 decision to the Sagehens. Pomona-Piitzer's Nick Frederick, Travis Bowers, Teddy Bingham and Garret Lenhardt each contributed RBI-base hits during the offensive outburst that proved to be the difference in the game.

No. 1 Shenandoah downed Randolph-Macon 3-1 in its final tuneup before taking on No. 2 Christopher Newport this weekend. Shenandoah got all of their offense in the first two innings against Randolph-Macon. Senior All-America Kevin Brashears finished the day 3-for-4 and drove in the Hornets final run with a second inning single. Hornet starter, Brian Goddard, who scattered six hits, allowed a single run in his 7.2 innings of work. Goddard also struck out 10.

Hardin-Simmons' won its 13th straight game over Howard Payne with an 8-2 win in ASC action at Hunter Field. Sam Walker was solid for the Cowboys in his 37th career start, a new Hardin-Simmons record. He went six and two-third innings and allowed two runs, while scattering 11 hits.

Kurt Schmidt scored five times in Augustana's 15-5 win over Wheaton Ill.) in the CCIW opener for both programs.
Augustana sports information

Led by Kurt Schmidt and Jeremy Juhl, Augustana pounded out 21 hits and defeated Wheaton (Ill.) 15-5 in the CCIW opener for both teams. Schmidt was the offensive star with a 4-for-6 day that included a double, a triple and five runs scored.

Washington (Mo.) won its fourth game in a row as the Bears picked up a 9-5 victory over Greenville at Kelly Field in St. Louis, Mo. Washington starter Adam Merzel was in complete control. He allowed just two Greenville hits through the first seven innings, striking out nine batters over that span.  Washington is closing in on the single-season school record of 93 steals, having already picked up 71-of-80 stolen base attempts so far this year.

Sul Ross catcher Eric Martinez hit a walk-off, two-run double in the ninth to complete a three-run rally for the Lobos in an 8-7 conference win over Texas Lutheran in game one of a three-game conference series Friday night at Kokernot Field. Junior righthander Luke Fry went the distance for the Lobos. Fry struck out five and did not walk a batter.

The Bethany Lutheran Vikings defeated conference opponent Presentation in their home opener. Trailing 4-0, the Vikings found their grove and cruised to a 14-6 victory. Starting pitcher Darin Hendley was shaky on the mound in the first inning walking his first batter faced, and then allowing a grand slam later in the inning. Despite the four earned runs in the first, Hendley went on to pitch effectively in the next five innings for the win. Along with his work on the mound, Hendley had four RBIs on two hits.

Piedmont kicked off the 2011 GSAC regular season with a 3-1 victory over Huntingdon on the road. The Lions received a first class performance from their Friday night pitching staff while grinding out just enough offensive power to get a two run victory over the Hawks. Caldwell went seven innings for his fifth win of 2011 striking out five at the plate. Closer Matt Collins picked up his sixth save of the season coming in to face five batters in the ninth collecting all three outs by way of strikeouts.

Hendrix went ahead with a 4-3 advantage in the top of the seventh, however, Emory rallied for six runs in the bottom half of the frame and held on for the 9-5 win on at Chappell Park. Emory junior Paul Schwendel fired six shutout innings but did not receive a decision.

No. 19 Thomas More split a Presidents' Athletic Conference doubleheader with Waynesburg at Waynesburg Field in Waynesburg, Pennsylvania.  The Saints won game one, 17-7, but the Yellow Jackets won the nightcap, 6-5, in eight innings.

Jorge Gutierrez, Thomas Lacik, and Andrew Rivera combined for 10 RBIs as the sixth, eighth and ninth batters in the lineup and New Jersey City scored six runs in the first and third innings and opened a 16-2 margin before defeating Drew, 16-5, in a non-conference game at the Thomas M. Gerrity Athletic Complex.
