Patriots rally for win

T.J. Martin's bases-loaded sacrifice fly in the bottom of the
ninth inning lifted no. 6 Texas-Tyler to a 7-6 comeback victory over
LeTourneau at Irwin Field. The Patriots had to erase a
LeTourneau advantage twice in the final two innings, as the
visiting YellowJackets had reclaimed the lead with a two-run home
run by Chris Bertram in the top of the ninth.
Cal Lutheran allowed a seven-run fourth inning to No. 11
Pomona-Pitzer that erased a three-run Kingsmen advantage in a 9-3
decision to the Sagehens. Pomona-Piitzer's Nick Frederick, Travis
Bowers, Teddy Bingham and Garret Lenhardt each contributed RBI-base
hits during the offensive outburst that proved to be the difference
in the game.
No. 1 Shenandoah downed Randolph-Macon 3-1 in its final
tuneup before taking on No. 2 Christopher Newport this weekend.
Shenandoah got all of their offense in the first two innings
against Randolph-Macon. Senior All-America Kevin Brashears finished
the day 3-for-4 and drove in the Hornets final run with a second
inning single. Hornet starter, Brian Goddard, who scattered six
hits, allowed a single run in his 7.2 innings of work. Goddard also
struck out 10.
Hardin-Simmons' won its 13th straight game over Howard Payne with
an 8-2 win in ASC action at Hunter Field. Sam Walker was solid for
the Cowboys in his 37th career start, a new Hardin-Simmons record.
He went six and two-third innings and allowed two runs, while
scattering 11 hits.

Led by Kurt Schmidt and Jeremy Juhl, Augustana pounded out 21
hits and defeated Wheaton (Ill.) 15-5 in the CCIW opener for both
teams. Schmidt was the offensive star with a 4-for-6 day that
included a double, a triple and five runs scored.
Washington (Mo.) won its fourth game in a row as the
Bears picked up a 9-5 victory over Greenville at Kelly Field in St.
Louis, Mo. Washington starter Adam Merzel was in complete control.
He allowed just two Greenville hits through the first seven
innings, striking out nine batters over that span. Washington
is closing in on the single-season school record of 93 steals,
having already picked up 71-of-80 stolen base attempts so far this
year.
Sul Ross catcher Eric Martinez hit a walk-off, two-run double in
the ninth to complete a three-run rally for the Lobos in an 8-7
conference win over Texas Lutheran in game one of a three-game
conference series Friday night at Kokernot Field. Junior
righthander Luke Fry went the distance for the Lobos. Fry struck
out five and did not walk a batter.
The
Bethany Lutheran Vikings defeated conference opponent
Presentation in their home opener. Trailing 4-0, the Vikings
found their grove and cruised to a 14-6 victory. Starting pitcher
Darin Hendley was shaky on the mound in the first inning walking
his first batter faced, and then allowing a grand slam later in the
inning. Despite the four earned runs in the first, Hendley went on
to pitch effectively in the next five innings for the win. Along
with his work on the mound, Hendley had four RBIs on two hits.
Piedmont kicked off the 2011 GSAC regular season with a 3-1 victory over Huntingdon on the road. The Lions received a first class performance from their Friday night pitching staff while grinding out just enough offensive power to get a two run victory over the Hawks. Caldwell went seven innings for his fifth win of 2011 striking out five at the plate. Closer Matt Collins picked up his sixth save of the season coming in to face five batters in the ninth collecting all three outs by way of strikeouts.
Hendrix went ahead with a 4-3 advantage in the top of the
seventh, however, Emory rallied for six runs in the bottom half of the
frame and held on for the 9-5 win on at Chappell Park. Emory
junior Paul Schwendel fired six shutout innings but did not receive
a decision.
No. 19 Thomas More split a Presidents' Athletic Conference
doubleheader with Waynesburg at Waynesburg Field in Waynesburg,
Pennsylvania. The Saints won game one, 17-7, but the Yellow
Jackets won the nightcap, 6-5, in eight innings.
Jorge Gutierrez, Thomas Lacik, and Andrew Rivera combined for 10
RBIs as the sixth, eighth and ninth batters in the lineup and New
Jersey City scored six runs in the first and third innings and
opened a 16-2 margin before defeating Drew, 16-5, in a
non-conference game at the Thomas M. Gerrity Athletic Complex.
