Bethany Lutheran runs record to 5-0
The Vikings of Bethany Lutheran defeated Aurora 6-1 to run their
season record to 5-0 on their spring trip. Starting pitcher
Garrett Benson allowed just four hits and one run in a full seven
innings for his first win. Benson had eight strikeouts and walked
two batters. Brad Lawson came in to throw two innings of no-hit
ball close out the game.
N.C. Wesleyan found its way back to the winning ways as the
Bishops swept a doubleheader with Penn State-Abington by scores of
4-2 and 7-0. The Blue and Gold took advantage of solid pitching by
Jake Alexander and Jimmy Martin. Alexander threw five innings
allowing just 2 runs off seven hits while striking out eight
batters, including four consecutive Nittany Lions. In the second
game, Martin pitched a complete game one-hit shutout.
Thomas More swept Bridgewater (Va.) in a nonconference
doubleheader during the third day of the Russ Matt Central Florida
Invitational at the Lake Myrtle Complex in Auburndale,
Florida. The Saints won game one, 7-6 in nine innings and the
nightcap 4-3 in nine innings. Max Robbins led the Saints at the
plate going five-for-nine in the two games.
Junior Eddie Kalankiewicz’s three-run double highlighted a
four-run eighth inning leading Coast Guard to a 9-7 win over
Illinois College at the Gene Cusic Classic. Kalankiewicz, who
entered the game in the bottom of the seventh, lined a shot over
the right fielders head that cleared the bases giving the Bears a
7-3 lead. He later scored a sacrifice fly by sophomore Riley
Beecher for an 8-3 lead. Illinois College would score four runs to
make the score 8-7 but would not get any closer. The Bears added an
insurance run in the ninth.
