Blue Jays open with win

Sixth-ranked Johns Hopkins used a big first inning to take down visiting York (PA), 6-2, on Wednesday afternoon in its season opener. The Blue Jays had first inning home runs from Jesse Sikorski, Zach Small and Steve Bejsiuk as they built a 5-0 lead. D3baseball.com preseason All-Americans Alex Eliopoulos and Sam Eagleson each pitched three innings for the Blue Jays with Eliopoulos credited with the win.
In other top 25 action no. 4 Shenandoah defeated Bridgewater (Va.) 11-4, Salisbury defeated Apprentice School 11-5, and Christopher Newport swept Staten Island 10-5, 9-2 to tie the best start in program history.
Junior pitcher Glenn Cox tossed six innings, allowing one run on three hits while striking out nine and junior designated hitter Matt Joiner went 4-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBI to lead the College at Florham Devils to a 9-6 win over William Paterson in the season opener.
Wesley used a six-run fourth inning to break the game open and
took
a 9-2 final from Washington (Md.). Kevin Murphy had a pair of
hits in the game to move his hitting streak to 41 games. It
ties him for the fifth longest streak in Division III history and
is tied for the 15th longest streak in NCAA history.
Sophomore Taylor Berman tossed a one-hit shutout in game two as Washington (Mo.) split a doubleheader with Westminster
at Kelly Field in St. Louis, Mo. The Bears dropped game one, 3-1,
and then rebounded for a 2-0 in the nightcap. In the opener,
four Westminster hurlers limited Washington to just two hits. Jon
Simpher got the win for Westminster, while Kevin Moritz picked up
the save.
For the second day in a row, the Mules rallied from a 3-1 deficit to take a 4-3 lead over Eastern in the late innings. The Eagles scored an unearned run in the top of the ninth to tie the game and escaped a bases-loaded jam as the game was called due to darkness.
Patrick Boulware belted a two-run homer in the top of the seventh and pitched out of a bases-loaded jam later in the inning to save Immaculata's 12-11 win at Guilford. Boulware, who also homered earlier in the game, helped the Mighty Macs split the doubleheader as Guilford rallied to win the opener, 9-8.
