Saturday saw four of the top seven teams and fourteen in the Top 25 lose on the field. Adrian knocked off top ranked Heidelberg with UW-Stevens Point and Johns Hopkins also losing. The three teams that received first place votes in the latest Top 25 all lost as Illinois Wesleyan joined Heidelberg and UW-Stevens Point with a loss on the day.
Adrian made history on Saturday beating #1 Heidelberg, 2-1, in 10 innings. It is the first win over the top-ranked team for the Bulldogs. Adrian has given two teams in the top eight of the D3baseball.com/NCBWA Poll their only losses. The Bulldogs got to All-American closer Andy Lowe in the bottom of the 10th as Jake Cappelletty's two-out RBI single scored the winning run.
Oglethorpe shocked No. 3 UW-Stevens Point in Winterhaven, Florida., 5-3. The Pointers, playing in their first game of the season, watched sophomore Cory Leff launch a game-winning two-run bomb in the bottom of the 7th to lift the Stormy Petrels to their fifth straight win. David Langhan pitched a perfect 7th and 8th innings to pick up the win while Matt Cornwell nailed it down with a save in the 9th.
St. Olaf split its doubleheader with No. 6 UW-Whitewater on Saturday, winning the opener 3-2 before dropping a 7-2 decision in game two. With the score tied going into the bottom of the seventh, St. Olaf’s shortstop, Sam Maus, hit a walk-off single to win the game. In the nightcap, a six run fifth inning was enough to give the Warhawks the win.

Johns Hopkins lost two games on Saturday. They lost a morning game to Eastern Connecticut State 3-4 and a second game 1-2 to Pomona Pitzer. After starting the season 4-0, the Blue Jays are 1-3 in their last four game.
Outside the Top 10, #11, Ilinois Wesleyan, #12 Trinity (Texas) and #13 Chapman also were upset. Washington (Mo.) had a five run lead but the Titan's comeback bid fell short as the Bears prevailed 5-3. Austin did the trick with Trinity (Texas), defeating the Tigers 6-2. La Verne was a 3-2 winner over unlucky Chapman. The Leopards ended the #13 Panthers win streak at 13 games.
Fourteenth ranked St. Scholastica also tasted defeat. St. Scholastica jumped out to a 5-0 lead on Division I University of Illinois-Chicago, but the Flames kept on chipping away and eventually got past the Saints with a two-run single in the bottom of the ninth to win by a score of 6-5.
Anderson defeated no. 15 St. Thomas (Minn.) in the final two games of their stay in Winter Haven, Florida. The Ravens won the first game 5-4 and the nightcap 14-7. In the first game, Austin Young led the offense with three hits and an RBI. Garrett Stone added a double and two RBI. In the second game, it was Michael Tucker who led the Ravens with four hits and five RBI, including two doubles and a home run. No. 16 Wooster lost to UW-Oshkosh 5-3
No. 18 Wheaton (Mass.) and no. 20 Cortland State could not get their offenses started. MIT shutout Wheaton (Mass.) 1-0 with RPI doing the same by a 3-0 score to the Red Dragons. Mit doubled the damage as they then took the back end of the doubleheader, 5-3, for the sweep. Frostburg sent #21 Salisbury to defeat in a CAC conference game. Greg Ross pitched a complete game six-hitter for the win over Salisbury.
No. 23 Mary Washington was swept by Wesley, 3-1 and 8-6, and no. 24 Millsaps split with Hendrix. Wesley used the pitching of DJ Keckler in the opener and three-hit game by Rob Benedict in the nightcap. Hendrix junior righty Teddy Smoyer fired a complete game with eight strikeouts to lead the Warriors to a 6-2 win over Millsaps.
