Colvin and Rauh get wins in openers
On Friday, as games were canceled in Texas, Lousiana, and
Mississippi due to unseasonable cold weather, Chapman and
Pomona-Pitzer started their seasons with wins over D-III
competition.
Brian Rauh threw 7.0 innings of no-hit baseball as he led Chapman
to a
7-1 win over Whittier and a successful start to the Panther's
2011 season. Rauh struck out 13 batters and exited the game
having allowed just two base runners in his season debut.
David Colvin earned his first win of the year on the mound for
Pomona-Pitzer with a 10-3 win over Pacific (Ore.)
Colvin allowing two runs on eight hits, striking out 10. Pacific's
starter, Jason Sawyer, proved quite effective in his first start,
allowing four runs on four hits in five innings, but took the
loss. SageHens' first baseman Nick Frederick led all hitters
with a 4-for-4 day, lacking a double for the cycle.
In other action under sunny skies in Southern California, Cal Tech, La Verne, Occidental all lost to NAIA competition.
