Filak leads 22 chosen in 2010 MLB draft
The most since twenty-five went in the 2005 draft
The draft started on Monday June 7th but the D-III action did not get going until Tuesday. And It did not take long for the first D-III player to go as Oneonta State ace Dave Filak was selected in the fourth round (134th overall) by the Atlanta Braves. As quickly as Filak was taken off the drafts board, it would take another ten rounds to hear another D-III player called. Improving on his 26th round selection in 2009, Michael Giovenco of North Park was selected in the 14th round (419th overall) by the Kansas City Royals.
Andrew Pevsner, a lefty from Johns Hopkins was selected in the 16th round by the L.A. Dodgers and quickly followed two more pitchers. Derek Eitel, Rose-Hulman went in the 17th to Arizona and Logan Chitwood of Texas-Tyler was the choice of the Oakland Athletics in the 19th round.
The sixth D-III player selected was the first position player. Outfielder Gary Mitchell, Neumann was taken by the L.A. Angels in the 21st round (654th overall). The second position player drafted was Yazy Arbeko of Keystone. The Giants first baseman was selected by Arizona in the 26th round. Sandwiched between these two picks, Dan Jurik a left-handed pitcher at St. John Fisher, was selected by Atlanta in the 25th round.

The final D-III player selected on day two was Denison pitcher, Aiden Lucas. The Big Red product will have the chance to start his professional career with the St. Louis Cardinals with his selection in the 27th round.
Keystone highlighted day three of the draft with three selections. Oakland's selection of righty Sean Murphy in the 33rd round was just the first. Murphy was followed in the next round by teammate Victor Lara and in round 44, Eric Groff became the third Giant selected and fourth overall. Lara and Groff were both selected by Arizona.
Kelson Brown was drafted by Pittsburgh in the 34th round. Brown, listed as a pitcher in the draft, pitched only 11.1 innings in 2010, spending most of his time at shortstop. Steve Dennison, Wheaton (Ill.) was also taken in the same round (1027th overall) by the Florida Marlins. In the 38th round, the Seattle Mariners selected Ben Versnik of UW-Whitewater with the 1152nd over all selection.
In consecutive selections in round 39, Steve Matre, Mt. St. Joseph was taken by the L.A. Dodgers (1192nd overall) and Nick Robinson was selected by Boston (1193rd overall). Brett Carrol, a left handed pitcher from William Paterson was the choice of Minnesota in the 42nd round.
Rounds 42 and 47 saw two Anderson outfielders taken. Chris Jarrett was chosen by Arizona and Cody Young was taken by Baltimore. Pomona-Pitzer's James Kang was the 19th D-III player selected in this years draft. Boston took the promising shortstop in the 45th round. The final D-III player selected was James Wood, Trinity (Conn). He was taken in the 47th round by Seattle.
The Arizona Diamondbacks used five picks on D-III players starting with Eitel and ending with Groff. No other team chose more than two D-III players in this years draft.
